Character Labels

Your Character Label is determined by the calculated result your Chivalry, Guilt and Confidence values. Generally, a friendly exchange increases Chivalry, while an unfriendly one increases Guilt. Interactions between players affect your Character Label. There are many different ways of increasing your Character Label values, for example Escort Tasks, Forbidden Instance, PvP Events, Kidnapping etc.

The Four Character Labels

Heroic: To get Heroic your Chivalry must be twice the amount of your Guilt value. The combined value of Chivalry and Guilt must be greater than twice your Confidence.

Evil: To get Evil your Guilt must be twice the amount of your Chivalry value. The combined value of Chivalry and Guilt must be greater than twice your Confidence.

If you don’t meet the condition for Heroic or Evil, your Label will be categorized as Maniacal or Sinister.

Maniacal: If your Chivalry is more than Guilt, and does not meet the conditions for Heroic.

Sinister: If your Guilt is more than Chivalry, and does not meet the conditions for Evil.

When players first enter the game their label is "Novice". When players form a team, the team’s Label will be determined by the highest level Character Label on the team. If the highest calculated value of one team member is Evil, then the team’s Label is Evil.

Crime and Punishment

Capturing Criminals

Players may choose to spend Tael at the Constabulary to issue a Bounty on their enemy. Once captured, the length of imprisonment varies depending on the amount of Tael spent.

  • Players must spend a minimum of 10 Liang Tael to issue a Bounty.
  • Players free of Novice Protection may spend 5 Liang Tael to become a Constable.
  • Constables can accept Bounties and receive rewards by capturing criminals.
  • Criminals will be sent to prison after they are killed.
Constable Playing Method

Each server has a maximum of 1000 constables. Constables can attack Criminals freely. Once the Criminal is captured, the Constable will receive a reward from the person who issued the Bounty. Constables lose their status if they kill too many people, they may not apply to be a constable again until they have returned to Normal Status.

Infamy and Prison Time

Each time a player kills others, they gain Infamy. When Infamy increases the color of a player’s name changes. When the player’s name turns red they will become a wanted Criminal for all Constables. Players must lower their Infamy to under 2000 to remove themselves from Bounties.

Character Infamy and Justifiable Defense

When a normal player kills a red named player (Wanted Criminal), their Infamy only increases a little. However, if players defend themselves from an attacking player, Infamy will not increase.

Infamy Scales:

Infamy ranges from 1 to 10000, character name colors change according to where the player is on the scale: Orange, Red, and Purple.

Infamy and Constables

When a player’s Infamy reaches 2000 a Bounty will be issued by the Government, and that player may be attacked by Constables (NPCs and Players) at any time.

Criminal Hunting NPCs

Patrol NPCs: The various Guards and Patrolling Disciples found in a city, town or school.

Assassin NPCs: Hidden within cities, towns, and schools these NPCs will not attack unless there is a Red Named Criminal around.

Hunter NPCs: These hidden NPCs will attack anyone whose Infamy is above 5000.

Red Name Criminal Punishment

Any Red Named player that has been killed by an NPC or other players will be put into Prison or on Death Row. Infamy between 2000-7999 will be imprisoned, +8000 will be put on Death Row.

Punishments

Prison: Located in the five major cities (Jinling, Yanjing, Suzhou, Luoyang, and Chengdu). You must stay in prison until your Infamy reaches zero.

Death Row: You will be put on Death Row in Yanjing and decapitated the next day. Once you are decapitated your Basic Attributes will be greatly affected.

Avoid Being Punished

Orange Name: You may make donations to a “Mysterious Old Man” in each city to lower your Infamy.

Red Name: You may bribe the Prison Guards to release you early.

Purple Name: Before being decapitated you may bribe the Prison Guards and hope they will find a replacement for you.

Kidnapping Another Player

Kidnapping: A Guide

To the downtrodden citizens or new players in the game, the ability to stand for justice and honor is a great, triumphant feeling. As with most things in life, there is a flip side to this coin, or in Wushu “a Yin to the Yang.”

One of the more intriguing features in Age of Wushu revolves around the Offline Mode. Opposed to many traditional games, in Age of Wushu when you log out of the game, your online avatar begins to live on without you as an NPC. Once offline these players are able to accumulate silver and experience for the player when they log back in. But we aren’t here to talk about the and added bonuses of being AFK, we will be delving into the fun for those that are still logged in.

Unfortunately, the bonus of gaining XP offline comes with a risk. When the player logs off and converts their avatar into an NPC , they can become prey for the more nefarious players that inhabit Jianghu. For those who wish to throw caution (not to mention their sacred beliefs of their school) to the wind and focus on solely on their own ill-gotten gains, these players can follow an easy set of steps to kidnap these poor, helpless offline players.

Step 1: Always be Prepared

Just as one cannot simply walk into Mordor, you can’t just walk up to an offline player and say, “Get into this sack, please. Thank You.” As in all battles, you need to come prepared. There are unique knockout powders sold in the General Stores around Jianghu. Properly used, these potions cause the unsuspecting victim NPC to become dizzy and ultimately, pass out.

Step 2: Find an Offline Player

With the knockout powder procured, you must first find an target. Thankfully, an offline NPC is easy to recognize. Their names appear the same as a player’s name, but are seen performing a task off-line (sweeping, patrolling, performing in a square, shouting constantly about a store, etc.). Now that you have found an “Offliner” the fun begins

Step 3: Kidnapping

There are two ways to initiate,

  • Simply target the offline player and click the powder or
  • Right-click on the avatar of the offliner and selecting kidnap (then click the powder).

If successful, your character will blow the powder into the face of the character and they will conveniently pass out into a large black bag for you to pick up. This isn’t a 100% guarantee, though. Other factors must be considered before attempting to participate in the kidnapping lifestyle, such as the strength of the knockout powder or the strength of the player being kidnapped. Few things are as embarrassing for a player than being caught paralyzed in the middle of a big city after a failed attempt to knock out another player. That warning aside, you now are in the curious position of carrying an unconscious human, hidden inside a bag thrown over your shoulder. This is a bit conspicuous, to say the least. So, the first step of the kidnapping is done, what must be done for you to reap the benefits of your villainous undertaking …

Step 4: RUN

Congratulations, you are now a practicing kidnapper! This comes with the upside of criminal gains, but it also has its drawbacks. In addition to losing a bit of movement speed (you are carrying a person in a bag over your shoulder, after all) your avatar will now have a floating icon following you around and clearly marking you wherever you decide to go.

This icon is visible to all players and signals to them that you are kidnapping someone. Not only are there noble heroes out to stop your evil ways, BUT SO ARE OTHER KIDNAPPERS. Every player you encounter from now until that bag is off your shoulder poses a threat. It is up to you to find a location to turn your captive in too before someone catches you for good or evil reasons.

Step 5: Making Money

There are many locations around the region that you can sell a character too. You won’t be able to transport a body outside of the region that you captured someone in. So if you really enjoy selling to a pharmacist in Suzhou, you can’t bring a kidnapped role from Chengdu over. Some areas won’t take your package too. You can’t sell a person back to the store or business you took them from. Once you finally make it to a location of your desire, simply talk to the NPC in charge of that establishment and make the deal. Various stats and other factors will determine how much money you will get from that transaction too. And then, you are finished and free to roam around the world again. An important note, there are specific NPCs that will give you a kidnapping task at certain times. They will give you a specific type of person to search out and kidnap for a special reward.

Now that you know the basics to one of the most devious methods in the game, will you be a kidnapper or still fight for the good of the world in Age of Wushu?

Kidnapping isn’t for everyone. You should avoid kidnapping if you wish to be someone important in a school with a Justice Code. Shaolin, Emei, Wudang, and the Beggars frown upon the act of Kidnapping and it can prevent you from becoming stronger within those disciplines. The good news is, if you are remorseful, there is an option to give in to your conscience and give up the kidnapping at no penalty. Simply abandon the kidnapping and all will be forgiven. You do earn respect if you are members of these schools and prevent kidnappings.

*Players must qualify for Jianghau PvP and not be under protection to begin kidnapping. This means the Sit and Breath Internal Skill must be cultivated to Level 11 or any school internal skill cultivated to level 5

Jianghu Aid

When playing Age of Wushu, have you ever see a little pigeon in the upper left hand corner of your screen with message “Help in Jianghu”? When you accept this task to give aid, you will be transported to become a minion of an Instance Leader and assists in defending the instance against invaders.

“I’m trapped within (name of Forbidden Instance) and request you to come quickly to assist me. No matter success or failure, I will give you an awesome reward.

     (Instance Leader Signature)”

While traveling in Jianghu, the Random Encounters may take you to unexpected places where you can gain surprising rewards. Jianghu Gossip will also bring you into the Forbidden Instances, forcing you to join in the fray. Entering each instance will be based on Jianghu Gossip and Random Encounters.

With the new Forbidden Instances you have more than just the option of grouping up with your friends and attacking, you can also defend them. Though those requesting aid to defend the instance may not always be righteous, but if you help them the monetary rewards or possibility of clearing an outstanding debt might be worth overlooking such things.

Additional details to be aware of:

First, these notices for help are sent to many players within the area, but Instance Leaders might only need a few helpers. So a player who does not quickly accept the help request might be left out.

Second, if you are called to help within the Instance, you will become an advance level NPC and all you have to do is fight to help the Instance Leaders to defeat the invaders.

Third, you don’t have to worry about getting killed by invaders. You can keep respawning until the battle is over.

Finally, no matter what the results are, you will get rewarded, though a successful defense against the invaders will gain better rewards.

So next time you get one of these “Assist in Jianghu” notices from a pigeon, remember to accept quickly!

Random Encounters

There are some things in Age of Wushu that are not planed, but experienced. These experiences are mysterious and can occur without warning. You could run into a bit of serendipity or find yourself in a bit of trouble. Some of them could confer a life-changing set of martial arts skills without the player having to lift a finger. Or you could wear yourself out, only to receive a reward as valuable as a simple stone. These are Random Encounters, and they can leave a player joyful or seething.

There are two kinds of random encounters: “Random Type” and “Fixed Type”.

Random Type

  • Each map will have the random encounter similar to a lotto. A random player will be chosen from the map and an unknown NPC will start following them.
  • You will be able to trigger a random encounter with certain NPCs everyday. However, once you talk to that NPC they will go on cooldown and others may not talk to them.

Fixed Type

Fixed NPC Type

You will be able to find this type of NPC through hints hidden within gossip. However, you need to fulfill certain requirements to trigger random encounters from this type of NPC.

Fixed Task Item Type

This type of random encounter involves items dropped in the world. When you a Fixed Task Item is dropped, you must find the corresponding NPC to trigger the random encounter. No further requirements are needed.

Tip: To begin a random encounter, find an NPC with a lantern icon above their head.

Random Encounters are the result of your interactions with NPCs and the world, so be sure to fully grasp how gratitude, loathing and gossip play out in Age of Wushu’s social systems. After selecting a storyline, the game will give players some guided tasks. We recommend you do them, as even they might result in Random Encounters!

Chat Functions

Age of Wushu is a large-scale MMO, and chatting is one of its fundamental social functions. Most players are familiar with basic chat functions, but there are some features that might need explination.

If you click on the small gear on the combine button above the chat window. You can select which sources you'd like/not like to recieve messages from, such as guild, school, or nearby chat.

If you want to create a chat tab that only displays a single source, such as school chat, you can do that by clicking the + sign next to the combine button. When you enter a new Team, Group or School, the system will automatically detect it and create a new chat tab.

On the upper right-hand corner of the chat window is a yellow triangle that you can drag to enlarge or shrink the chat window. The Adjust Automatic Transparency button allows you to pick the degree of transparency of the Chat Content Tab.

On the right of the text entry bar is a button for emoticons that you can pick from.

Note: Among the chat channels are the Gossip and World Channels, but they are premium chat channels, and access to them will set you back a few taels of silver per message sent.
