Seeing as how there is a decent break between the second closed beta test and the launch in February, what is everyone going to be doing in that time?

Unfortunately for me, it falls right on the break between my two semesters. The game will actually launch around the start of my spring semester :?

Are you enjoying it? I'm reading a lot of player reviews and following it on some forums and it seems people are pretty displeased with it.

Let me start off by saying something: I played the original on and off for about 4 years, and I've been testing this one since Alpha, so perhaps I'm a bit biased, but I try to keep it objective.

That said, I love the game. Sure, they probably should've waited another month or so to release, but given the fact that this is the strongest MMO (In terms of on-screen processing and rendering needed), it's remarkable that there aren't more problems. In fact, the patch they put in with release did wonders with the engine. Hell, a month ago there were so many issues that when they annonuced the November launch date, half the beta community was laughing their asses off. But they seemed to have pulled it off, even if it was by the skin of their teeth.

Still, if you try it (Which you totally should, and then hit me up), think of the next couple months more of an open beta than actual release, 'cause SOE is trying to ease their, honestly, outdated engine into a battlefield of thousands of players.

TL;DR: If you're a strategic person like me that enjoys fighting alongside hundreds of other players while shooting at hundreds more, only as a tiny speck on a map that spans three continents, you'll enjoy this, as long as you can forgive a few issues here and there.

Hmm, I guess I should know better than to believe most player reviews. I'll have to give it a go soon.

Yeah, most of the complaints are about either the engine being a CPU hog (Unavoidable given the environment), and the lack of real tutorial (Another valid point). But they're pretty minor compared to the feeling of watching a squadron of friendly air cavalry fly over your head as you're fighting for your life, cornered in a building with the remnants of your squad.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuun times.

Yea, I agree that the sheer joy from an in-game experience can outweight some of the bigger problems.

Planetside 2 is Sony's attempt at the pay to win market. I really dislike the direction gaming is going. Whats next? SF4 becomes pay to win? AOW needs to make it so combat is 100 percent player skill driven.
